As the World Series moves to South Bend stadium, BEL is still searching for ways to score runs. Markakis and Beltre have remained as hitting leaders and McCutchen gets on base approx. 40% of the time despite a low average. Everyone else is struggling so BEL revamped the line-up for game 3 putting Reyes at leadoff and McCutchen back 3rd spot.
The match-ups for Game 3 are Wainwright vs. King Felix with the expectation for a tight pitching game that would be decided in a few at bats.
Well, the game was mostly as expected. In the bottom of the 1st a double and a single put runners on 1st and 3rd with one out digging BEL into an early hole. A groundout held the runner on 3rd and another ground out following an intentional walk to Reddick, helped BEL escape without any damage. There were few runners or threats by either team until 2 walks in the bottom of the 5th got Wainwright pulled (another quick hook by the BEL manager). Playing the percentages, Crockett came in to face Rizzo and got a fly out and Giles K'ed Tulo so BEL escaped and it was 0-0 headed to the 6th.
BEL got its first lead of the series on doubles by Reyes and McCutchen in the top of the 6th. In the 8th, BEL got a single by Lemahieu and following a sac bunt by Betances, a single by Reyes scored Lemahieu for a 2-0 BEL lead. Betances struckout the side in the 8th and Chapman closed it in the 9th for BEL's first series win. Things have now gotten a lot tighter.

At Target Field Ken
Giles(1-1) got the win and the Bellingham Bozos shutout
the South Bend Fighting Irish
2 to 0.
Giles did a nice job in
relief and was credited with the win. He
didn't give
up much, just 1 hit and no
walks in 1 and 2/3 innings lowering his ERA from
2.70 to 2.31. South Bend went down quietly in the bottom of
the 9th.
Aroldis Chapman earned the save,
his 4th. Felix Hernandez(3-2) was
charged
with the loss. He gave up just 1 run and 3 hits in 7
innings.
'Wow. That's about all I can
think to say.' said Steve Spiegel following the
victory. 'If ever a team needed a win, it was us.'
